Initially a load study was carried out to verify that the existing supply had sufficient capacity to cope with the new proposed electrical power demand. Thereafter new distribution boards and cables where designed and power distribution CAD schematic drawings and cable calculations where issued to the client. Once the new installation works where completed we inspected and tested the new installation and issued NICEIC BS7671 Electrical Installation Certificate.

The American School in London - Electrical Design, Inspection & Testing and Installation
XS Engineering where appointed by the American School in London, in St John’s wood, London to inspect and test a new security wing which had been newly rewired. Upon inspection we found that the new supply submain cable to the security wing was undersized for the proposed load and length of run and also that part of the new installation was not in compliance with the British Wiring Regulations BS7671. We where subsequently commissioned to design a new submain cable and carry out repairs and upgrades to the new electrical installation. We designed the new submain cable specifying a larger 3-phase steel wire armour cable (SWA) and produced CAD schematic drawings and cable calculations. We then installed the new cable and carried out the necessary repairs. Once completed we tested the electrical installation again and issued a NICEIC  BS7671 Electrical Installation Certificate.

Hornsey and Islington Schools, London - Electrical Design and Inspection & Testing
XS Engineering was appointed by Balfour Beatty / Balfour Kilpatrick, to verify, inspect and test Islington Arts & Media School and Central Foundation Boys School, both substantial school buildings part of a proposed £50,000,000 refurbishment project in London. The project involved the inspection and testing of over 1,000 circuits during a one week ‘window' while the schools were closed for half-term. In addition to the inspection and testing reporting, we provided detailed schedules of departures, a photographic record of the installations, details circuit charts for the distribution boards and CAD schematic drawings illustrating all of the distributions boards and submains.

Old Broad Street, City of London - Inspection & Testing
XS Engineering where instructed by leading electrical engineers to inspect and test the above landmark office tower which was located in the heart of London’s financial district adjacent to the Bank of England, (formerly occupied by The London Stock Exchange). The tower was arranged over 30 floors and totalled approx. 300,000 sq ft and was being completely refurbished including a new electrical installation.

Barbican, City of London – Consultancy – Expert Witness Report
XS Engineering where appointed to act as expert witnesses in a legal dispute between a property owner an electrician. The property owner had his kitchen re-wired and was not happy with the quality of the work carried out. Litigation ensued and we were appointed by the owner’s solicitors to carry out a survey of the electrical installation and provide a report with our findings. Our report concluded that the work carried out by the electrician was to a very poor standard, it do not comply with the Wiring Regulations and certain aspects of the installation where potentially dangerous. Our report helped the property owner win his case and an out of court settlement was agreed.

Belgravia, London – Inspection & Testing

Located in the heart of central London’s media district, XS Engineering where appointed to inspect and text the electrical installation in this substantial nine floor landmark office block. Over 600 circuits where inspected and tested and a BS7671 Periodic Inspection Report issued. The report highlighted numerous areas which required repair and improvements and XS Engineering where appointed to carry out these works. Once the works where satisfactorily completed a revised Periodic Inspection Report was issued to the client. Subsequently we were instructed to rectify all defects and upgrading work was carried out outside of office hours.

Westlands & The Mark Street Depository, London – Design, Inspection & Testing and Installation
Substantial Listed period buildings comprising of a former church converted into a two storey sales showroom and adjoining 3 storey offices. Over the years, the property has been inspected & tested by XS Engineering. We were also instructed to design a new electrical installation for one of the office floors. We produced CAD schematic power distribution drawings together with cable calculations and thereafter arranged for the works to be carried out.

Bibliophile Books, London – Emergency Lighting and UPS Design & Installation
This substantial distribution warehouse and offices was inspected and tested by XS Engineering.  Our survey revealed that the premised did not have any means of emergency lighting. Accordingly we were instructed to design and install a new emergency lighting system. We designed an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) rated at 10kVA. The UPS was designed to feed a new dedicated distribution board which would feed essential power to the phone system, servers and also existing high-bay lighting so that in the event of a power failure the premises could continue to work on standby power for up to one hour. Our design not only catered for the need for emergency lighting without the need to buy and install extra light fitting, which would have proved costly, but also at the same time to provide emergency backup for essential equipment.

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Council, London – Design
XS Engineering where appointed by The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea Council to design a new power supply and power distribution system to provide power for their new digital central CCTV monitoring system for the borough. Thereafter new distribution boards and cables where designed and power distribution CAD schematic drawings and cable calculations were issued to the client. Once the new installation works where completed we inspected and tested the new installation and issued BS7671 Electrical Installation Certificate.

iCD Publishing, London – Fault Finding, Design & Installation
iCD Publishing are a prominent publishing house with offices in central London. Following a routine periodic inspection of the installation it was reported that whenever they switched on certain lights, that the circuit breaker protecting the lighting circuit would ‘trip’ and cut the power to the circuit. While this was only a small problem it was causing a major inconvenience to the client. The client had a number of electricians investigate the matter, but none of them where able to rectify the problem. The circuit in question had dozens of low-voltage halogen lights installed each of which had its own electronic transformer. Upon investigation we found that when the lights where switch on that there was a substantial inrush of current being drawn which was causing the circuit breaker to operate. After measuring the start-up inrush current we calculated the correct type and rating of protective device required which would not operate on start-up. The circuit breaker was replaced and the problem was solved.

Soho Housing Association – Design & Installation
A low-rise block of residential apartments in Soho, Central London – Upon routine survey by others, it become apparent that each apartment did not have complaint main earthing which posed a potential risk of electric shock and fire. XS Engineering where appointment by Soho Housing Association to design and install a new earthing system for the development. Accordingly we designed and installed a new earthing system in accordance with the Wiring Regulations BS7671.
